Description:
A renewed interest in exercise testing (ET) by physical therapists (PTs) is occurring and resulted in a well attended educational session at CSM 2020. At this session, a number of factors related to safe and effective ET were reviewed including (1) the history of ET by non-physicians including PTs, (2) training in ET for PTs, (3) assessment of competency in ET, (4) assessments performed before, during, and after ET, and (5) interpretation and dissemination of ET results for diagnostic, prognostic, and rehabilitative purposes. The results of the above session and information presented stimulated requests from many in the audience to offer a course on ET to improve one's understanding of ET methods and the interpretation of ET results as well as methods to assess competency in the administration and supervision of ET. Thus, this course will address methods to administer, interpret, disseminate, and utilize ET results to prescribe exercise. This day-long course will address each of the above factors with a superb faculty and focus on moving forward the role of PTs in ET to facilitate the rehabilitation of clients/patients with and without disease. Making this course applicable to a large audience of PTs from all specialty areas.
