Candidate Statement:

Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things. (Drucker & Bennis)
More than half of my first term has been amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Academy stepped up and did the right things during these challenging times. You all stepped up and helped highlight the Academy as a trusted source of expertise, information and resources. When I envisioned the PACER Project, everyone who was asked to be involved said yes, without hesitation. PACER -- with its faculty and its director extraordinaire, Talia Pollok, along with the support of APTA and the COVID-19 Response Task Force – has been front and center in APTA’s response to this pandemic.

During my tenure we have: 1) rebranded as the Academy of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Physical Therapy; 2) developed APTA-aligned branding/logo; 3) contracted new member-responsive Executive Director; 4) launched new website; 5) created more networking opportunities; 6) introduced CCS Prep Study Guide; 7) officially voted within APTA House of Delegates; 8) initiated regular virtual courses, with member discount pricing; 9) established 2021-2022 strategic goals; 10) developed partnership with Guidelines Central.  All of these great things have only been possible due to an amazing team of servant-volunteers – your APTA CVP Board of Directors, Committee Members, as well as the leadership of those who served before me.

If re-elected I promise to continue to bring value to your membership. Our new Strategic Goals have our members at its heart, and I look forward to moving them from goals to actions.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE MEMBER

Deanna Colburn Hostler, PT, DPT, PhD

APTA member since:  2003
Academy member since:  2020

Academy Activities:
Chair of new Education SIG for the Academy

Other APTA Activities: (include state and national activities):
Question writer for CVP Specialist exam

Candidate Statement:
I have been a member of the APTA for 18 years and first became a Cardiovascular and Pulmonary clinical specialist in 2007. I have been active in contributing to ABPTS by being a question writer for the specialist exam and would like to participate more actively in the Academy. I am interested in becoming a member of the Nominating Committee to serve by continuing to find qualified candidates to participate on the board and by promoting Academy members for national awards within the APTA.

I would like to promote the development of educational resources for clinicians, students, and PT program instructors in CVP Physical Therapy diagnosis and treatment. While I will work on this goal through the Education SIG within the academy membership an appointment on the nominating committee will allow me to help to provide recognition to members who are advancing education in our area of expertise.

Other APTA Activities: (include state and national activities):
VPTA Member
Acute Care Academy Member

Candidate Statement:
I have had the honor of serving the Academy of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy as the current Education Chairperson. In order to meet the needs of the membership and the profession, it was essential this role evolve to become more active and hands-on. While developing ideas for Academy-sponsored education, I also had the opportunity to learn more about the responsibilities of an Executive Board, observe the logistics of planning a national conference and, amazingly, assist a passionate and highly motivated group of people come together during a pandemic to provide support and education for all via The PACER Project.

The PACER Project brought together physical therapy professionals from all over the country across all Sections and Academies. This first-of-its-kind collaboration, under the leadership of Angela Campbell, provided an opportunity for me, as a new Board member, to meet and work with those on the front lines, educators who quickly pivoted to virtual platforms, administrators navigating ever-changing policies and many other veteran leaders in our field.

The many professional connections created in these last two years will allow me, as a Nominating Committee member, to provide insight as to who may best serve the Academy on National and Executive committees and receive well-deserved recognition for excellence. In the event I am elected to this position I will step down from my duties as Education Chair, assist with the transition to a new Chair and continue with duties of the Nominating Committee.
